Halloween Camp 16-17 October 2015

Everyone have heard about the famous american tradition of "treat and trick”

In collaboration with the School of Technology & Arts (STA), for few years running, both school came up with our very own Halloween Camp. Why would you pay $55 just to get the HNN experience where you can enjoy a similar experience for just $0. Not only that, you get to make new friends from across the 2 schools. How fun can it be!

Experience the Goriest, most Terrifying moments from the camp. Be part of the exciting yet frightening #SWAGAWOO Halloween Camp 2015! Trick is to stay ALIVE!

Curse upon you…………..

She’s waiting, lurking in the dark…………..

"As part of the scare team, I didn't interact with the participants much. This is due to the long hours and waiting time putting on make up and dressing. But when a team came by to do activities, the long time that we did for make up and dressing paid off. It was a thrilling experience role playing as a ghost, seeing and hearing the participants panicking. I was happy to see that even with chaos happening, the participants still stick together as a team." - Muhammad Danial Bin Mohamed Noor, Y2 - DHSM

"Halloween camp 2015 has been a success! I think I can safely say that because majority of the participants turn out to be satisfied with the camp. I do hope to collaborate with other schools and make it a whole school event in the future as everybody should be given the opportunity to enjoy this event together. Afterall, we are One RP!" - Yeong Pheng Kiat Shawnald, Y2 - DSES

Dreamspiration - 18-19 September 2015

IMG-20151023-WA0001.jpg

Dreamspiration is a combination of two words. Which is, dreams and inspiration. With that being said, this event is for people to realise their dreams and get inspired of what or who they would want to be in their promising future.
"From what I learnt, Dreamspiration is an event targeted at youths who are not as fortunate. However, being part of the event with the SHL Club made me realise that from what I saw, these are just ordinary people. They are just kids that like us, have the knack and interest to gain new knowledge and learn new things. The fact that they were seen as “ less fortunate ” was just a mere perspective of other people. Dreamspiration taught me that we should always accept people around us as equals and never as anything less." - Muhammad Taufiq Bin Abdul Rahim, Y2 - DSES.

"Dreamspiration has thought and put me through an excellent journey to give back to the society. It was a very interesting and enriching journey for me as I have always wanted to give back to the society and doing a good deed, indeed felt good.

I like the fact that the committee members actually made the effort in calling in an experienced speaker, who was from the industry. He shared some inspirational stories about his life and career decisions. He also shared on how he gave back after being successful. After the sharing session, we went for an ice-breaking game that bonded all those who were involved in dreamspiration. This was the opportunity for us to push our boundaries from just within our own social circle, to many others and expand our community and truly live up to our OneRp motto.
SHL club sent a few representatives to showcase the different courses available in our school of sports health and leisure. Form diploma of outdoor adventure learning, diploma in sports health and leisure, diploma in sports exercise sciences and diploma in health management and promotion. Each of the courses offered by the school of sports health and leisure (SHL) are unique and have the countless opportunities if we graduate from republic polytechnic. Our guests will get to experience the significance of what SHL has to offer from, using the sphygmomanometer from diploma in health management and promotion to learning on how to set up tents from the diploma in outdoor adventure learning.
It was indeed a very fruitful experience as I was able to explore more about what other groups was doing and also, communicating with the students who came to our booths. I had no regrets joining team dreamspiration
. -Mohamad Faiz Bin Mohamed Sukor, Y2 - DHMP.

Every child has a dream to live for, but he or she will need someone who can gauge them and explain to them, the career path they can look into. Inspiring the young will brighten their future. Our #TeamSHL provided them with a new dimension for their future.

Unite Camp 14-15 August 2015

IMG-20150815-WA0018.jpg

UNITE  -  juːˈnʌɪt/
verb
  1. Come or bring together for a common purpose or action.
  2. Come or bring together to form a whole.

UNITE defines fostering bonding, and this camp provides an opportunity for SHL students from all courses to bond with one another and get to know each other better.
Participants have gained various leadership skills and values throughout the camp and with the bond that they have created amongst themselves which encourage them to create more opportunities for collaboration, initiative and communication amongst the SHL students in the near future.
This camp also gives them a chance to create new friendship and more importantly, and the sense of belongingness to the SHL family.

"All I can say is that this year's unite camp gave me a chance to lead as a student leader a good one . Leading a group of 10 - 13 people with two other SLs may not be a big role , but to me it is as this role is the very first role I've got after our batch take over .The unite camp is not just a normal camp , it is a camp where all SHL students in RP come together and bond with each other . We may not have many interactions , but we know and we can feel each other's presents .I'm really thankful for the people involved , making this camp a successful one . Cheers !" - Seah Yi Min, Y2 - DOAL.

"UNITE camp was a camp for the freshies to enjoy and bond with other SHL mates. It was an opportunity for them to expand their social circle, to go beyond their course. Even though I was not assigned to a group being a game master for the camp was enough for me to interact with my juniors directly. It was indeed a very exciting camp for me because I had the opportunity to use my position as a game master to communicate with my juniors and watch them build their chemistry within their team to meet that objective which was set by me. It was a pleasure to see them communicate and get them out of their comfort zone to actually step up and lead the team. Despite the fact that I was not assigned to a group, I managed to have fun and bond with my fellow SHL peeps." - Nur Aziemah Bte Azman, Y2 - DOAL.

"Unite camp is a great opportunity for everyone from SHL to come together as one SHL. We got the chance to bond together with everyone and were able to make new friends. From this camp, the juniors were also able to know some of their seniors from SHL better. This is the first event that allows everyone to come together besides FOP. From the games that we play during the camp, everyone got the chance to bond together with each other and have fun. It was a enjoyable experience  attending the camp. And I didn't regret attending the camp :)" -Foo Yu Shan Fenalla, Y2 - DHSM.

We would like to thank all participants and student leaders who are involved in the memorable camp, and lastly to the organising team for hosting and planning such an awesome camp. We look forward to see you on our upcoming event and may the bond between us grow strong each day.

Tree Plantation - 21st June 2015

"He who plants a tree, plants a hope."
- Lucy Larcom, Plant a Tree

Trees are essential to the existence and well-being of our Earth. Trees does not only improve the air quality that we breathe, but they provide food and shelter for our family, the wildlife and combat climate change.

On 21st June 2015 our #TeamSHL took part in Tree plantation campaign. Here are some reviews written by our warriors.

“My experience doing the project was really good and an eye opener for me. As it was during the fasting month, it was a challenging one for me as i had to work under the hot sun and humid environment. We did the tree planting with some other schools and had to work with them to make the project a successful one. What we did was is to put plants into bottles that were cut into half and we need to plant them. What makes it challenging is that some plants are so sensitive and we need extra cautious when picking them up. So we use a mini 'tongs' to pick those plants up. What i learn from it were teamwork and patience. It is because it was tiring and it was a long day at work as i had to work without drinking any water or consuming food.” - Muhammad Nur Saleh Bin Abdullah, Y2 - DHMP.

“The tree plantation project was a simple yet fun and meaningful project. I especially liked how we all worked together to create a new 'home' for the adoptive plants and how we used recycled materials so it's Eco-friendly and it doesn't harm the earth! :D” - Sophia Loh Hui Min, Y2 - DHMP.

Protecting the environment is a responsibility for all.

Telunas #MissionJaga

School of Sport Health Leisure (SHL) has a vision and mission to reach out to the community, not just the local but also beyond them. On 9th march 2015, a group of student from SHL, began their International Service Learning Programme (ISLP) mission of the year  to  Pulau Jaga (Jaga Island), Indonesia.

This memorable trip to the beautiful island of Pulau Jaga showed us the difference between a 1st and 3rd world place. It explained how tough life can be, being brought up in urban where there is no existence of technology.

It’s a trip that brought so much meaning to us, taught us how grateful and blessed we should be in Singapore with the essential provided, unlike them.

The best teachers to us in Pulau Jaga would be the children. Why? They taught us something we can always have,  it’s priceless and it’s a universal welcome, that would be SMILE. It’s as simple as what all of us think. SMILE speaks thousand of words behind those meaning and these kids showed us what’s happiness is all about. It’s the appreciation of the things around you, family, friends and nature. It may be nothing to you, but these kids, happiness and fun is everything, it’s what they live for and they are living life to the fullest each moment.

Video montage done by: Muhammad Arsyad Bin Amir, DOAL.

The Telunas trip has taught me many valuable life lessons which is not possibly learned in normal classrooms. I enjoyed myself during the trip as not only many new friendship is forged but also the impact we've made which is to bring smiles on the kids' faces when we spent quality time with them.

- Muhammad Zulhilmi Bin Ithnin, Year 2, DSC

It was a privilege and a pleasure and an eye opening experience for everyone. Tears were shed and memories are made. This trip deserves a special place in everyone’s heart.

We would like to thank Republic Polytechnic, Telunas Resort and last but not least the villagers and the little gems of Pulau Jaga for the the unforgettable experience. We will meet again, till next time.
